AVIF libraries for C#
.NET has no built-in AVIF support (System.Drawing and WPF use Windows codecs, which need the AV1 Video Extension and don’t encode). ImageSharp and SkiaSharp don’t support AVIF. Two open-source libraries do, both with native binaries in their NuGet packages:
- Magick.NET wraps ImageMagick, which reads and writes AVIF through libheif. Pick it when you also need many other formats or ImageMagick’s editing operations.
- NetVips wraps libvips. It’s much faster and uses less memory than ImageMagick for resizing and converting, so pick it for thumbnails and web image pipelines.
- Magick.NET Magick.NET reads and writes AVIF in C# and .NET with ImageMagick and libheif. How to install it, convert JPEG and PNG to AVIF, set quality and speed.
- NetVips NetVips is the .NET binding of libvips. How to install it, convert images to AVIF, set quality, effort and bit depth, make AVIF thumbnails.
