JPEG XL libraries for Ruby
- ruby-vips binds libvips, which reads and writes JXL through libjxl. It’s fast, uses little memory and is what Rails’ Active Storage uses for image variants by default.
MiniMagick also converts JXL when the installed ImageMagick is built with libjxl: it runs the magick command line, so it’s simpler to set up but slower.
- ruby-vips ruby-vips reads and writes JPEG XL images in Ruby through libvips and libjxl. Convert to and from JXL, set quality, distance, effort and lossless.
