JPEG XR libraries
Few libraries support JPEG XR. Almost all of them use jxrlib, Microsoft’s open-source reference codec; on Windows, the system codec in WIC (Windows Imaging Component) is the other option. Pillow, libvips, the Go and Java standard libraries, the Rust image crate and PHP’s GD and Imagick (without external tools) don’t read JPEG XR.
| Language | Library | Read | Write | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C/C++ | jxrlib | yes | yes | reference codec, BSD-2-Clause, all pixel formats |
| C# | WPF imaging | yes | yes | WmpBitmapDecoder / WmpBitmapEncoder, Windows only, uses the WIC codec |
| Python | imagecodecs | yes | yes | NumPy arrays, jxrlib built in, HDR float data |
| Rust | jpegxr | yes | no | safe wrapper of a bundled jxrlib |
No open-source JPEG XR library exists for Java, Go, Ruby or PHP. From those languages, run jxrlib’s JxrDecApp / JxrEncApp tools, or ImageMagick with the jxrlib tools installed as a delegate.
