JPEG XR libraries for C/C++
For C and C++ there’s one open-source JPEG XR codec:
- jxrlib is the reference implementation released by Microsoft under the BSD-2-Clause license. It encodes and decodes every JPEG XR pixel format, including HDR half-float and float, and comes with the
JxrEncAppandJxrDecApptools. It’s no longer developed by Microsoft; maintained copies live on GitHub and in Linux distributions, vcpkg and Homebrew.
On Windows, the JPEG XR codec in the Windows Imaging Component (WIC) is part of the OS: use IWICImagingFactory with GUID_ContainerFormatWmp. It’s not open source, but it’s always available and is what Windows apps use for HDR screenshots.
- jxrlib jxrlib is Microsoft's open-source JPEG XR reference codec in C. How to install it, decode a JXR file to an RGBA buffer, get the size and pixel format.
