TIFF libraries for C/C++
- libtiff is the reference TIFF library. It reads and writes every tag, multi-page files, strips and tiles, BigTIFF and all common compressions. Most other TIFF readers (ImageMagick, GIMP, Pillow, libvips, GDAL) use it. Pick it for any general TIFF work.
- GDAL is the standard geospatial raster library. Its GTiff driver (built on libtiff) handles georeferencing, coordinate systems, overviews and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF. Pick it when the TIFF is a map, satellite image or elevation model.
stb_image and LodePNG-style single-file libraries don’t support TIFF. ImageMagick (Magick++) and libvips also read and write TIFF through libtiff if you already use them.
- GDAL GDAL reads and writes GeoTIFF and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF in C and C++. How to install it, read bands and georeferencing, create a compressed GeoTIFF.
- libtiff libtiff is the reference C library for TIFF. How to install it, read pixels, iterate pages, read tags, and write compressed, multi-page and BigTIFF files.
